“It was a really useful session. I particularly liked all the practical examples that Tre gave us. I came away feeling excited about comprehension! Tre created a very friendly atmosphere within the group – the hour flew by!” Susan McKean, Eton End School
This training is for all KS1 and KS2 teachers/TAs and those running intervention in KS3.
Reciprocal Reading is described in ‘Brooks’s What Works for Literacy Difficulties?’ as having a ‘remarkable impact’ on accuracy and comprehension. Reciprocal reading refers to an instructional activity in which pupils become the teacher in small group reading sessions. Teachers model, then help children to learn to guide group discussions using four strategies: summarising, question generating, clarifying, and predicting.
Reciprocal Reading encourages children to think about their own thought processes during reading and helps them to learn to monitor their comprehension as they read. It also teaches pupils to ask questions during reading and helps make the text more comprehensible.
This session will:
- Explore how to use Reciprocal Reading at whole class level and as a group intervention strategy to dramatically improve reading results.
- Examine a wealth of practical ideas for teaching the 4 key strategies within Reciprocal Reading.
