“This session was really useful and gave me inspiration for practical activities that I can use in class daily.”  Siobhan Griffin, All Saints Primary

This training day is aimed at Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5 , Y6 teachers and TAs.

“It is no surprise then that the complex act of writing is described as tantamount to a game of chess. For most writing tasks in the classroom, a pupil will be thinking about their many ‘moves’: handwriting, word choices, spelling, paragraphing, writing for their audience, activating their prior knowledge, along with considering the purpose and genre of their writing, and more. The messy, complex, rich and rewarding act of writing can and should be at the heart of best practice in the classroom. The demands of ‘school writing’ can be met over time, and we can close the writing gap, one move at a time.” Closing the Writing Gap – Alex Quigley

This will be a really practical session full of strategies to use immediately back in the classroom, helping schools to raise standards and close the writing gap.

  • Explore the 14 Principles of World Class Writing Teaching ( Ross and Young 2022)
  • Examine the teaching sequence for Guided Writing.
  • Explore effective strategies for inspiring writing in the primary classroom.
  • Consider practical tips for developing active editing.
